HOUSTON, TX (01/23/2016) — Tania Rodriguez was killed in a hit and run collision that also injured her four siblings and her father, Cayetano Rodriguez, on Saturday night.
Authorities reported that shortly before 6:30 p.m., Rodriguez’s Toyota Tundra was rear-ended by another vehicle. The impact forced the pickup truck into a pillar underneath the highway.
After the incident, the driver who caused the wreck fled the scene. Police say the vehicle is either a red Chevrolet Cobalt or Cavalier, and likely has damage on the left front panel and bumper.
Houston police spokesperson Kese Smith stated that Cayetano Rodriguez and his 16-year-old daughter were taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His other four children were transported to Texas Children’s Hospital, where Tania later died.
Officials are currently seeking the driver and have encouraged anyone with information to contact Houston police or Crime Stoppers.
