Slaton, TX – Eliova Franco Arispe Killed in Crash on US-84

Slaton, TX (October 4, 2020) – An accident in the Slaton area claimed one person’s life on Thursday. At approximately 1 p.m., on October 1, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a crash on US Highway 84.

Reports show that 18-year-old Thomas Henry Erskine was driving a pickup truck southeast on US Highway 84. At the same time, a Tahoe SUV was traveling northwest on the same highway, which was driven by 59-year-old Berta Arispe.

As the vehicles approached a construction area in the road, Eskine took evasive action to avoid hitting vehicles who slowed down. As a result, the pickup truck traveled through the median and collided with the SUV.

A passenger in the SUV, who was identified as 89-year-old Eliova Franco Arispe, was critically injured. The victim was transported to a local hospital via ambulance. However, they succumbed to their injuries while en-route.

Another passenger, identified as 22-year-old Madison Halie Karner, was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of injuries. 59-year-old Juan Soliz Garcia was ejected during the crash and rushed to University Medical Center for treatment as well.

Erskine was not seriously injured in the accident. At this time, DPS is investigating the incident.
