On February 4, at around 6:45 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on US 281 Military Road.
Reports from DPS indicate that 30-year-old Britney Justine Cavazos and 26-year-old Kristine Renae Valderas were traveling along the highway, just west of FM 88, when their vehicle collided with a semi-truck.
Valderas was fatally injured and declared deceased at the scene.
Cavazos was airlifted to McAllen where she later succumbed to her injuries.
At this time, DPS is investigating.
