- The dog sitter, dog walker, or someone else who is caring for the dog: In some cases the person who is caring for or controlling the dog may be responsible for a dog attack. This is often true if the caretaker was violating a local dog restraint law.
- The dog owner’s parents: If a dog owner is a minor, his or her parents may be held responsible for any dog bites.
- The owner of the property where the dog attack occurred: A property owner may be found partially responsible for a dog attack if he or she knew that a dangerous dog was on the property and yet did not take action to protect others from the dog.
- The dog bite victim. In rare cases, a dog bite victim may be found responsible for his or her own injuries. This can occur if the dog bite victim was trespassing, committing a crime, or was harming the dog.
