Jefferson County Nursing Home Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Jefferson County Nursing Home Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit

A daughter has filed a Texas wrongful death lawsuit after her elderly mother suffocated at a nursing home in Port Arthur.
According to local news reports, Pearl Green was suffering from pneumonia and respiratory failure at the Texas Senior Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center two years ago when a nurse on the floor noticed that Green’s tracheotomy tube was clogged and that the patient was having difficulty breathing. However, when the nurse alerted the head nurse on the floor, Sherry Cole, she claimed to be too busy to help the patient and clean the tube.
Just minutes later, Green was at Southeast Texas Medical Center, unresponsive, and suffering from cardiac arrest. She suffered brain damage from being deprived of oxygen and was ultimately taken off of life support.
Her daughter, Patsy Bushnell, is seeking damages for her mother’s wrongful death and for her own mental anguish. The case will be heard in Jefferson County.
Sadly, these nursing home neglect and wrongful death cases are far too common in Texas adult care facilities – some due to a lack of trained staff members and some due to simple gross negligence. If your elder loved one has suffered because of neglect or abuse, be certain to speak with a Dallas nursing home attorney about your case.
