Houston, TX (August 21, 2020) – An automobile accident reported in the Houston area early Thursday morning claimed one victim’s life. At approximately 1:30 a.m., on August 20, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Addicks Clodine Road.
Reports provided by deputies from District 4 show that a motorcyclist was traveling through the intersection of Addicks Clodine Road and Westpark Drive when they were struck by a car. The rider was critically injured in the accident. Emergency crews requested a medical helicopter to transport the victim to an area hospital for further medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that the injured rider succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
We would like to offer our condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Motorcycles make up less than 1% of vehicles on Texas roadways at any given time. Unfortunately, when they are involved in collisions, the results are often devastating. Victims on motorcycles make up over 14% of fatally injured people in traffic-related incidents every year. These accidents are often more catastrophic than those involving other types of vehicles. This is due to the fact that motorcyclists have very little protection against motor vehicles sharing the road, most of which weigh several thousands of pounds. The weight of vehicles combined with speed and force is a negative combination for riders.
In countless cases, these individuals suffer devastating injuries due to reckless drivers. In fact, the majority of motorcycle accidents in our state are a result of negligent drivers. Driver errors and those engaging in reckless actions like texting, eating, or changing the radio while driving, as well as those who choose to drive impaired, commonly cause life-changing accidents throughout our state. Although thousands of people are left with serious injuries due to motorcycle accidents, more than 500 motorcyclists lose their lives in accidents throughout our state each year. When families lose loved ones in these horrific incidents, they should contact a wrongful death attorney in Texas at their earliest convenience.
When motorcyclists lose their lives in preventable accidents, their families are able to file wrongful death claims against wrongdoers to obtain compensation for funeral costs, medical treatment, and various other financial burdens they face moving forward after an unexpected loss.
