According to reporting in TrailBlazersBlog.com, a member of the El Paso House has apologized for an accident she was involved in. The House member, Naomi Gonzalez, was involved in a car crash after she hit another car in an Austin intersection, which then struck a bicyclist. The same reporting references a police report that says that the house member’s blood alcohol content was two times the legal limit at the time of the accident.
Drunk driving accidents are major issues in Texas. While many drunk driving accidents involve two vehicles – or more vehicles, in some cases – some of them do involve a drunk driver either directly or indirectly causing a collision with a pedestrian or a bicyclist. These types of accidents can be particularly deadly.
When drivers are intoxicated, their reflexes are slowed, their judgment is compromised and their attention spans tend to be very limited. This causes them to take very risky actions and, at the same time that they are more prone to taking risky actions, they are less equipped with the basic skills to take those actions with any degree of safety. For instance, a very skilled driver may have to sometimes make a very fast lane change into quickly moving traffic and may be able to do so without causing any injury or even causing anyone to have to brake to accommodate them. These types of maneuvers, however, require that a person is fully aware of their situation and that they have all of their reflexes working at their best speed, which is something a drunk driver simply does not have.
Drunk drivers also commonly cause accidents at intersections, as noted above. These accidents are oftentimes cost because the drunk driver doesn’t realize that a light has turned red or that there is a stop sign that they need to obey. These types of accidents are oftentimes devastating. If somebody in the intersection happens to be on foot or on a bicycle, they are in exponentially more danger of being injured or killed.
A good personal injury attorney can go after a drunk driver for damages to your property or medical expenses that you have endured. If they actually killed someone in your family, such an attorney can also function as a wrongful death compensation lawyer and help you to seek compensation from the individual responsible for the pain and suffering and financial damage that they caused your family.
