According to law enforcement, two people were standing in the roadway directing traffic at a rollover accident that occurred on the westbound side of the LBJ Freeway near Jupiter Road.
As they worked to provide assistance at the scene, they were struck by a semi-truck that attempted to brake and ended up jackknifing. The semi-truck then overturned across the highway.
One of the people struck by the truck was fatally injured. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers.
The second victim suffered critical injuries. The victim was rushed to an area hospital for emergency care.
The truck driver and the person driving the vehicle involved in the initial collision were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The accident remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety at this time.
