At around 2:30 a.m., on February 2, the police and firefighters were called to the scene of a crash on Interstate 20.
Preliminary reports indicate that two Fort Worth Police Department officers were stopped in the 8900 block of Interstate 20 near West Loop 820 while assisting at the scene of a crash.
For reasons unknown, an 18-wheeler traveling through the area jackknifed and crashed into their patrol unit.
One officer was in the patrol vehicle at the time of the crash. He was able to exit the vehicle before it was struck by a second 18-wheeler, which was traveling on the interstate. The two officers attempted to flee the scene to avoid being struck by a third 18-wheeler, which was involved in the accident.
Both officers were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries following the accident.
The circumstances surrounding the traffic accident are currently being investigated.
