Arrest Made after Elderly Woman Abused by "Caregiver"

Houston Texas Elderly Abuse

HOUSTON, TX — Caregiver arrested after she was caught on camera physically abusing elderly Alzheimer’s patient.

Earlier this week, the Memorial Village Police Department released a shocking video showing an in-home health care worker repeatedly striking a defenseless 94-year-old Alzheimer’s patient. Thanks to a citizen tip, Houston police reported that they located and arrested the suspect at around 2:30 a.m. this morning in the 7200 block of Fulton.

The surveillance footage, captured the very first day the webcam was installed, shows his mother’s home health care worker (Brenda Floyd) cursing, berating, and using her hand to repeatedly hit the defenseless elderly woman on the back of the head—all for allegedly feeding a dog ‘people’ food.

The victim—Dorothy Bratten—is then seen leaving her living room chair, utilizing her walker to go elsewhere, while Floyd is seen continually striking and yelling at the woman.

Prior to this discovery, Police say the victim’s family actually trusted the caretaker so much that they even bought her a vehicle.

Floyd is now being held in a Houston jail on charges of assaulting an elderly person. If convicted, she could face from two to 20 years in prison.
