Reports provided by authorities show that Erick Hernandez was traveling in the 15600 block of Montana Avenue, while in a pickup truck, when his vehicle crashed into an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) as he made a left turn onto another road. Hernandez then fled the scene of the crash.
The rider on the ATV, 20-year-old Tommy Ortega, was critically injured in the accident. He was rushed to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office later apprehended Hernandez. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on suspicion of accident involving death. At this time, investigations surrounding the crash are ongoing with the Sheriff’s Office.
