While towns and governments around the country have turned their attention to distracted driving and mitigating its various causes, drunk driving remains a significant concern. In fact, about one-third of Americans will be […]
A Dallas police officer has been charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident, according to reports in FOXdfw.com. The officer had apparently ran into a car with her own vehicle and then attempted to flee the scene but was prevented from doing so by heavy traffic.
When any type of municipal employee ends up causing a traffic wreck, they can be held accountable for the damages in most cases, depending upon the circumstances of the accident. The police officer charged with the crime was at a gas station when she was picked up, having pulled over due to the traffic.
Drinking and driving remains a problem in Texas, with increased efforts on the part of law enforcement being undertaken during holidays and other dangerous times of year. Despite the fact that people generally rely upon police officers to protect them from drunk driving, nobody is above the law. In cases where officers are picked up for that crime, they are charged just as is anyone else and have the right to a trial as does anyone else. Of course, anyone injured by such a drunk driver also has the right to pursue a lawsuit against them for their negligent behavior.
There are many different circumstances involving people being injured by municipal employees and even by municipal vehicles. City bus accidents, for instance, can be devastating because of the extreme weight of the vehicles involved and the fact that a bus can easily crush a passenger car. Commercial drivers, such as truckers, are obviously in a position to cause a great deal of injury to people because of the sizable vehicles that they drive, as well.
An attorney can represent you against a drunk driver if they caused you injury, no matter what they do during the day for work. Whether it's a commercial driver, a city employee or even a police officer, hiring an attorney is one of your options if you've suffered real damages. You don't have to hire a Dallas drunk driving accident attorney to take such claims but, if you know an attorney has a good track record of winning their cases, it's a good idea to consider consulting with them first. Quite often, attorneys who do have such a reputation are among the best known in their communities and may be your best choice if you have a case against a municipal employee or even a law enforcement employee.
