LONGVIEW, TX (04/21/2015) — Police believe alcohol may have played a role in a head-on car accident on Loop 281 which left five people injured, including three children.
Officers from the Longview Police Department were called to the scene of a car accident in the 3900 Block of West Loop 281 at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Officers found that two vehicles (a Kia Sorento and a Kia Spectra) which had appeared to crash head-on.
An initial investigation by the Longview Police Department determined that the driver of the Kia Spectra caused the accident. According to police, 39 year-old Wanda McCowan (of Longview) was driving a 2008 black Kia Spectra eastbound on West Loop 281 when she entered the center turn lane and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic. 52 year-old Connie Jimmerson (also of Longview) was driving westbound on West Loop 281 in a silver 2006 Kia Sorento and collided with the front end of McCowan's vehicle.
All occupants of the Kia Sorento were seriously injured in the accident, including Connie Jimmerson (the driver), Tashica Jimmerson, and two young children. The driver of the Kia Spectra, Wanda McCowan, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All were taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center for treatment.
Police said that they believe alcohol may have played a role in the accident, and that McCowan could face up to four counts of intoxication assault. The accident is still under investigation.
It's important that an in-depth investigation is carried out in order to determine liability, and to determine whether or not criminal charges should be filed. I hope that all of those who were injured, especially the children, are able to recover the compensation they deserve after such an unfortunate event.
