FMCSA Shuts Down Bus Company

A Georgia bus company was recently ordered to shut down all of its operations by the FMCSA due to multiple transportation code violations. The bus company, registered in Atlanta, Georgia, plies the Philadelphia—New York route, carrying passengers between these cities.
The U.S Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration states that starting November of last year (2013), the company broke various violations, consequently endangering the public as well as the passengers it served.
Some of these infractions include:

  1. Failing to carry out regular inspections to ensure that the buses don’t have mechanical problems that could compromise the safety of passengers.
  2. The company also failed to conduct random alcohol and drugs tests on its drivers.
  3. The bus company did not ensure that its drivers adhered to federal rules regarding the number of hours drivers are supposed to spend on the road. This is vital because most accidents are caused by fatigued drivers whose attention on the road becomes diminished due to mental and physical exhaustion.
  4. Inspections by the FMCSA also found that the emergency exits on the buses were inoperable, making it virtually impossible for passengers to get out of the buses in a timely and safe manner in the event of an accident or emergency.

Ongoing FMCSA work.

All these violations can contribute to both car accident injuries and death. The FMCSA has been working overtime for the last three years to ensure that transport rules are adhered to at all times. At the same time, the transport body has tripled the number of companies and buses they have taken off American roads for transport code violations. All this is being done to ensure that transport safety remains a priority on our roads.

Bad reputation.

Bus companies are involved in numerous accidents on American roads. This is because they are notorious for putting profits ahead of everything else, thus endangering the lives of road users. If you've been a victim of a bus accident, you have the right to seek justice and compensation to the fullest extent of the law.
