Benjamin Garza Trapped, Killed in Garbage Truck Compactor in San Antonio, TX

SAN ANTONIO, TX (04/12/2016) — Benjamin Garza, an employee at Metro Waste Systems, was killed after being caught in a garbage truck compactor on Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, 26-year-old Benjamin Garza was killed after he became entrapped inside a garbage compactor.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rosanne Hughes stated that the accident occurred at around 10:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of Dezarae Street near Highway 90 in San Antonio, Texas.

Officials reported that Garza—who was an employee of Metro Waste Systems—was working in the back of a garbage truck when he was somehow pulled into the compactor.

"The lady across the street, the neighbor, she saw the man, the driver was walking up and down the street and then a police man came and just grabbed him and hugged him and she said I just knew it was something bad," said Adela Munoz, a nearby neighbor.

The Bexar County Sheriff's office is currently investigating this on-the-job accident to determine the cause. At this time, they are unsure how long the investigation will last.
