According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 57-year-old Alex Wong (of Bedford) and 27-year-old Dustin McJunkin (of Plano) were both killed in a head-on accident on U.S. 377. The accident also left 63-year-old passenger Nellwyn Garner Wong seriously injured.
Authorities say that a 2009 Honda Civic, driven by McJunkin, was traveling southbound on U.S. 377 (near Bluff Dale in Erath County, TX) shortly after 1:00 a.m. when his car veered into the northbound lanes and struck Wong's 2009 Jeep Patriot head-on. A DPS report indicates that the highway was clear and dry at the time of the wreck, and no factors were listed as to what caused the Civic to cross into oncoming traffic. One news report does say that "his vehicle crossed the center stripe in a right hand curve."
Dustin McJunkin, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the car crash. Alex Wong was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Wong's passenger, Nellwyn Wong, was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth (she is now reportedly in stable condition). Both Nellwyn and Alex Wong were wearing their seat belts.
Alex Wong was a senior street department manager with the City of Dallas.
