Some of the legal responsibilities that dog owners need to pay attention include:
- Keeping the dog in a secure and fenced enclosure. This enclosure needs to be locked thus preventing access by members of the public. The enclosure should also have a sign clearly marked stating if there’s a dangerous dog.
- When a dog isn’t in its enclosure, it must be restrained using a leash at all times or in the vicinity of other people.
- The dog owner may also be required to register the dog with the local animal control authority.
- A dog owner must also maintain some form of liability insurance coverage to cover the damages that may arise from his or her dog attacking a person.
