$15 Million Verdict for Child Left Permanently Disabled After Untreated Bacterial Meningitis

Tulsa Jury Finds Emergency Room Physician Failed to Act on Clear Signs of Serious Infection

A Tulsa County jury awarded $15 million to the family of a young girl who suffered catastrophic and permanent brain damage after a pediatric emergency room physician failed to properly diagnose and treat bacterial meningitis.

The case involved a 5-month-old infant who was repeatedly discharged from a Tulsa-area emergency room despite laboratory findings that plaintiffs’ experts described as “textbook signs of bacterial infection.”

The six-day trial in Montgomery v. Katie Jackson, M.D., et. al. was heard before Judge Kevin Gray in Tulsa County District Court. The Montgomery family was represented by Mr. Rasansky of Dallas-based Rasansky | McKenzie Law.
