Tanker Truck Accidents
Not your average car accident.
Although every truck has the potential to be dangerous in an automobile accident, there is the potential for added catastrophes when tanker trucks are involved because of the type of cargo the truck may be transporting. Some of the additional dangers that are present with the occurrence of tanker truck accidents include the following:
- Since tanker trucks usually transport liquid cargo (frequently flammable liquids), there is a high potential for fire and/or explosion. Any time a tanker truck is involved in an accident when it is carrying petroleum products, there is an increased risk of the cargo catching fire. These fires have the potential to cause burns to those involved in the accident, as well as to first responders and even those in close proximity.
- In cases where the tanker truck is not at least three-quarters full, the liquid inside may move around. This “sloshing” action may cause the tanker truck’s driver to lose control and result in an accident.
- Leaks and spills are another problem that can result when tankers are not properly closed or the tanker has any kind of defect. Spillage of the tanker’s freight can ultimately result in an accident, and even if an accident doesn’t occur with the tanker truck, the spill can cause other vehicles to crash.
- Chemical burns are also a potential hazard whenever a truck carrying chemicals becomes involved in an accident. When caustic materials are involved, their seepage after an accident could cause harm even to those who are not in any way involved in the accident but just happen to be in the vicinity.

- Rollover accidents are also more common with tanker trucks because of their lower rollover threshold in comparison to other types of commercial vehicles.
While you can’t reverse the harm done, you can seek justice.
