The 11-year-old victim was standing in the driveway when an older relative, another juvenile, attempted to drive a family member’s Toyota Corolla that was parked. The juvenile did not have a license nor experience driving a car. It was later revealed that the driver thought they were in reverse when they hit the accelerator, drove forward, and hit the victim. A family member attempted to render and transported the victim to University Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead. No further information on the deadly crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in the hands of local law enforcement officials.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Fatal Pedestrian Crashes in Texas
Pedestrians are far from safe when traveling in Texas, and crash statistics show a disturbing trend. The last five years have witnessed a nearly 30 percent spike in pedestrian deaths across the Lone Star State, according to data from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). A pedestrian was involved in one out of every five traffic fatalities in the state in 2022. There were 5,766 pedestrian crashes on Texas roads in that year, which resulted in 830 fatalities and 1,526 injuries. The state’s cities are not exactly pedestrian-friendly, and many drivers fail to look out for those on foot. In order to obtain financial compensation following a deadly pedestrian accident, a qualified personal injury attorney can assist you in pursuing a wrongful death claim.
It is unjust to hold surviving family members accountable for the careless driving of another person. Sadly, fatal pedestrian collisions happen on Texas roads nearly every day. To ensure that you have the best chances of obtaining financial recompense, you should speak with an experienced attorney who has assisted families in winning wrongful death lawsuits in the past. It can be quite difficult for you to deal with the loss of a loved one, and it is even harder if you do not get the compensation that you are owed. If someone caused your loved one’s death, you have the legal right to file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a knowledgeable wrongful death lawyer in Texas in order to ensure that they are held responsible under Texas state law.
