It was later determined that one of the vehicles was traveling in the wrong direction on the interstate when it collided with another driver. A third vehicle was hit as the other cars came to a stop. The wrong-way driver, later identified as 25-year-old Evelyn Merced-Rojas, suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The occupants of the second car were transported to the University Medical Center for treatment of sustained injuries. The driver of the third car was also hurt and transferred to Covenant Hospital in Plainview. No further information on the deadly crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
