One Killed, One Injured When SUV Slams Into Pillar On I-35E

One person was killed and another was seriously injured in Dallas on Sunday morning when the driver’s SUV slammed into a pillar on the Overton Road Bridge while driving on Interstate 35 East outside of Dallas. The car accident shut down the northbound lanes as police investigated the crash and cleared debris from the roadway.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the passenger in the sports utility vehicle, 21-year-old Eric Christopher McWhorter, died at the scene of the car accident while the driver was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. He was then taken to Methodist Central Hospital in critical condition. The car crash took place at half past four in the morning.
While the investigation is underway but not complete, Texas Police say that they do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the fatal wreck. It is not clear why the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the cement pillar.
