Man Charged in Lakeway Nursing Home Abuse Case

An Austin man has been charged with injury to an elderly person after being caught causing physical injury to a resident of a Texas nursing home.

Twenty-six-year-old Cornelius Dwayne Neal, an employee at Summit at Lakeway, was caught on camera in the act of physically abusing a 94-year-old female resident. The woman is disabled and unable to communicate
The resident’s daughter noticed had noticed several unexplained injuries while her mother was staying at the facility. She suspected abuse and placed a hidden camera in her mother’s room. Neal was caught slapping, pinching, and poking the woman in the face as he changed her gown. The woman reacted in pain.
Neal was arrested on September 7, 2012, and held in Travis County Jail until released on $15,000 bail.  He has been terminated from his position at Summit at Lakeway.
