Local sources later revealed that the Toyota was stopped at the intersection when the driver failed to yield to a northbound Chevy. The driver of the Toyota, 38-year-old Jamie Kmiec of Hemstead, hit the Chevrolet, causing the vehicle to overturn. Two passengers in the Chevy were ejected and sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 36-year-old Vallecious Martinez from Houston, was also injured and hospitalized in serious condition. Kmiec was transported to Scott and White Hospital in College Station for treatment of sustained injuries. The deceased victims were later identified as 31-year-old Henry Rodriguez and 25-year-old Martir Augusto from Houston. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is in progress.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of Henry Rodriguez and Martir Augusto at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

In the United States, intersections are the scene of 50 percent of injury crashes and nearly 20 percent of traffic deaths. Even with traffic signals and stop signs, these areas continue to pose dangers to everyday drivers since they are only effective when other drivers follow them.
