According to police, 23-year-old Travis Elwell was driving a silver BMW through Uptown Dallas on Tuesday afternoon when he struck the rear of a parked vehicle on McKinney Avenue at Elizabeth Street at about 5:40 p.m.
34-year-old Emily Javadi had reportedly just finished exercising at Cole Park, and was standing on a curb and leaning into the back seat area of the parked vehicle at the time of the crash. The impact threw Javadi forward where she then struck a metal pole.
Dallas Police were called to the scene and Dallas Fire-Rescue transported Ms. Javadi to Parkland Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Emily Javadi was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m., shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Police arrested the at-fault driver, Travis Elwell, and charged him with intoxication manslaughter. Police also say they believe Elwell was speeding at the time of the accident.
Emily Javadi was a business analyst and entrepreneur who worked for Baylor, and had launched her own cake-pop business in early 2014.
