Corpus Christi Living Center Making Improvements After Abuse Claims

The Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center has made a significant number of improvements since coming under fire for staging fights between residents in 2009. However, the United States Department of Justice says that the Texas assisted living home for those with mental illness still have a number of issues to fix in the future to make their patients safer and healthier.
The status of the adult care center was outlined in a new report by the Justice Department, which is overseeing the center following multiple claims of Texas assisted living abuse and neglect.
The report states that the Corpus Christi center has made improvements by installing security cameras in the facility and by better educating their staff regarding nursing home abuse, nursing home neglect, and reporting such issues. All in all, progress was noted in 62 different areas of care.
However, the report also listed a number of ongoing issues, including patients who have poor outcomes when transitioning out of the facility and patients who contract pneumonia while in the facility’s care. Generally, the living center is still understaffed and struggles to provide satisfactory nursing care to their 140 patients.
The federal government is reviewing the center regularly after repeated claims of mistreatment at psychiatric hospitals throughout Texas.
