Rollover Crashes in Texas
When passengers are not properly secured, rollover crashes can result in catastrophic injuries. Although these kinds of collisions have become more common in the United States, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports that they still only make up about 3 percent of all documented auto crashes nationwide. However, these crashes still prove deadly, contributing to nearly 33 percent of passenger car fatalities. The majority of these fatalities are unrestrained passengers who were ejected from the vehicles. Sometimes, an initial impact can cause a rollover, and in other cases, inclement weather or reckless driver behavior can be a cause. One car is thought to be involved in 75 percent of rollover collisions, with two or more vehicles being involved in the remaining 25 percent.
