Texas Fatal 18-Wheeler Collisions

Austin, TX - One Dies, One Hurt in 18-Wheeler Crash on FM 969Texas is a state that experiences a high number of semi-truck accidents. Most of these accidents occur on interstates and highways, and these vehicles are often the largest on the road. Roadways like Interstate 10 and Interstate 35 are hotspots for car crashes, and almost 62 percent of traffic accidents in the state occur on highways, according to findings from Texas Monthly. There were 649 fatalities reported in trucking accidents on Texas roadways in 2017, according to stats from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

A wrongful death can impact a family in more than one way. Ultimately, it is up to the authorities whether criminal charges can be pursued against the responsible party. Still, families have a separate right to pursue a civil suit against the at-fault driver after a fatal collision. Texas state law provides families with the ability to pursue a claim for damages if someone else’s negligence contributes to the death of their loved one. These claims are intended to help the family members recover compensation for damages resulting from the accident, including funeral and burial costs, and other expenses.

A large truck can easily cause a fatal collision, and these massive vehicles are over-represented in national roadway fatalities. If you have experienced the loss of a loved one in a semi-truck accident, you need to make sure that your legal rights are protected. A trained personal injury lawyer in Texas can help you maximize your recovery.
