The incident was reported on Interstate 35 near Main Street Market at around 7:18 p.m. Emergency crews were called to assist a stranded driver on the highway. Firefighters at the scene were directing traffic when one was backed into by a firetruck. 

The injured firefighter was transported to Baylor Scott & White in Waco, where he was later pronounced dead. No other information has been provided at this time. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is in progress.
