15-Seat Vans And Rollover Accidents

This week we covered a shocking story of a 15-passenger van and trailer that flipped multiple times on Interstate 35 near Hillsboro, Texas, after the driver of the lost control.
Thirteen people were seriously injured in the van accident while one infant, who was not secured in a car seat, died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Unfortunately, there is nothing new about 15-passenger vans and rollovers. According to traffic accident statistics, about 100 people died in these van accidents last year, many of which involve rollovers, serious injury, and multiple fatalities. 15-passenger vans, which are frequently manufactured by Ford and General Motors, are very top-heavy and prone to rolling, especially when they are filled with people or when they are loaded down with other materials. The more weight in or on top of the van, the higher the center of gravity and the more likely a rollover accident will occur.
Whereas small driver errors will not result in a serious crash in other vehicles, even small mistakes can lead to catastrophic injuries. In fact, research has shown that most 15-passenger van accidents take place when drivers 1) over correct after drifting near the side of the road 2) panic when a tire on the van blows out or 3) steer to avoid debris in the road or other obstacles.
If you or a loved one has been harmed in a 15-passenger rollover van accident, you should speak with a Texas van crash attorney today. These vehicles are dangerous and many of the crashes that take place could have been prevented if not for the negligence of the manufacturer or the carelessness of the van driver.
