Winters, TX (June 5, 2023) - A Bradshaw man was killed after a crash involving a semi-truck outside of Winters on Thursday afternoon, June 1.
The deadly accident was reported at the intersection of US-83 and Farm to Market Road 1086 that afternoon. A 66-year-old Bradshaw man was traveling northbound as he began to slow to make a turn at the intersection. Then, the rider was hit by a tractor-trailer driven by 67-year-old Jerry Laverne Carter of Myra.
The motorcyclist was transported to Hendrick Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is in progress.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
In 2011, there were no days without a fatality on Texas roads. Not all crashes involve commercial trucks, but fatalities are common in these accidents due to the size and weight disparity between large trucks and motorcycles, which weigh just 3,000 to 5,000 pounds on average. In Texas in 2010, there were 284 fatal truck collisions, some of the highest rates in the nation.
