It was later revealed that 79-year-old John Edd Rhoades was in the process of exiting a driveway to turn east on the highway as a Toyota Camry was traveling westbound. The Toyota crashed into Rhoades’ vehicle. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported in the collision. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of John Edd Rhoades at this time.
Deadly Car Wrecks in Texas
Given the size of Texas and its many miles of roads and highways, it makes sense that an automobile accident could occur at any time. Driving is a way of life for most people living in the state, and we all spend a lot of time behind the wheel. Sadly, this only increases the chance of getting into a car accident. Since November 7, 2000, there has not been a single day in the state without a crash. A total of 244,092 people in the state were hurt in auto accidents in 2022 alone. It may be surprising, but an estimated 51.42 percent of traffic fatalities across the Lone Star State occurred on rural routes. With California at the top, Texas had the second-highest rate of auto accidents in a recent year. If someone close to you is killed in a car crash, you may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim with the help of a trained lawyer.
