Sharing the road with a large semi-truck is incredibly common in Texas, but drivers understandably are concerned when they see a large commercial rig creep by them in the passing lane. Statistics show that large trucks and vehicles are involved in more than 400,000 collisions annually in the United States, or approximately 1,100 every single day. Police reported more than 475,000 heavy truck crashes in 2016 alone. According to the state's wrongful death law, a wrongful death action asserts that the defendant's negligence led to the victim's death. The immediate family of the victim is entitled to monetary damages as a result of the defendant's actions. For a wrongful death claim to be valid, there must have been negligence or carelessness on the part of the individual, corporation, or government body involved. You should always work with a reputable Texas wrongful death attorney to establish whether you have grounds for a claim. Wrongful death claims are civil actions, and they are completely separate from any prospective criminal investigations into the party at fault. That means you can still be successful in your wrongful death claim even if the at-fault party is acquitted in the criminal case. Wrongful death claims are incredibly complicated, and you should have an experienced lawyer on your side. Our wrongful death attorneys know how difficult it can be to deal with the loss of a loved one. It is only more devastating when another person's reckless actions caused the death. Only a skilled attorney can assist you in obtaining full compensation in a wrongful death claim.
