The deadly crash took place on US-75 near Legacy Drive as a McKinney woman was hit by a semi-truck. Her vehicle reportedly stalled on the highway when it was struck, and the impact caused her to be pushed into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was then hit again by another car.
The 29-year-old McKinney woman suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The driver of the rig, 55-year-old Richard Crockett, Jr. of Sherman, fled the scene. He was later found by authorities and is currently facing charges.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is in progress.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Fatal Trucking Accidents in Texas
A car accident can happen at any time in Texas, and in 2011 there were no days without a fatality on Texas roads. We know that not every crash involves a large 18-wheeler, but fatalities in truck accidents frequently happen due to the size and weight disparity between large trucks and passenger automobiles, which weigh just 3,000 to 5,000 pounds on average. In Texas in 2010, there were 284 fatal truck collisions. These collisions involved both truck-trailer and semi-trailer combinations.
