The accident was first reported on US-59 as a 2018 Dodge SUV was headed northbound. The driver entered southbound traffic and crashed head-on with an oncoming 2006 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer. The impact caused the commercial rig to catch fire.
The 46-year-old Louisiana man driving the truck was taken to a local hospital for treatment of sustained injuries, and the driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized in Tyler. The SUV passenger was ejected and suffered fatal injuries in the collision.
