La Feria, TX (April 9, 2023) - On Thursday morning, April 6, a Harlingen man was killed following a traffic accident outside of La Feria.
The fatal crash was reported on Highway 281 near La Avenida Iglesia at around 6:25 a.m. It was reported that a 44-year-old Harlingen man was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck. It was then that a Kenworth truck tractor-trailer failed to yield the right of way and collided with the pickup.
The Ford was trapped underneath the rig. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in the truck was hospitalized for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Although car accidents occur nationwide, Texas is particularly prone to these serious collisions. A recent list of the nation's most hazardous roadways placed Texas in the dismal top spot, with 3,305 fatal motor vehicle crashes reported in 2018. It is simple to understand how rapidly a semi-truck collision might occur given that certain routes have speed restrictions of up to 85 miles per hour and that fully laden semi-trucks need 525 feet, or almost two football fields, to stop when traveling at just 65 miles per hour.
The largest vehicles on our country's roadways are commercial rigs like semi-trucks and 18-wheelers. They serve a crucial role in moving big, hefty cargo across America, including building supplies, construction machinery, and ordinary items. Truck drivers, truck manufacturers, and cargo firms can prevent truck accidents. If they fail to do so and an accident results in injury to a driver, a cyclist, or a pedestrian, they can and ought to be held liable for their carelessness.
The typical semi-truck can weigh between 10,000 and 25,000 pounds even without a trailer. They can weigh up to 80,000 pounds when completely loaded. A semi-tremendous truck's weight means that its impact can be catastrophic; no other type of accident causes as much damage. They can, and frequently do, cause fatalities, disabling injuries, and wrongful deaths.
