Houston, TX (July 19, 2023) - On Tuesday, July 11, a woman was killed in the Houston area after she was hit by a semi-truck.
The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Wayside Drive and Ley Road at around 2 p.m. It was reported that an 18-wheeler was headed westbound at the 7900 block of Ley Road waiting to make a left turn. It was then that the truck hit a pedestrian in her 50s.
The woman sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is in progress.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
A total of 4,714 people lost their lives in heavy truck accidents in 2021, an increase of 17 percent from the previous year. Of these fatalities, occupants of trucks accounted for 16 percent, those of cars and other passenger vehicles for 68 percent, and pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycle riders for the remaining 15 percent. The family of the deceased is left to deal with severe grief and mounting expenses without the money to cover them when a spouse, parent, or other family member tragically is killed in a semi-truck crash. This is especially true if the deceased victim was the family's main source of income and their salary was used to pay the mortgage, vehicle loan, health insurance premiums, food, and tuition. You might have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim if a loved one was unfairly killed in an accident. Even though a financial recovery might seem unimportant after a deadly crash, bills still need to be paid when a loved one is not present. This can make what is already the most stressful time in your life even more difficult to handle. Surviving family members have a legal and financial avenue via which they can hold the responsible person accountable for a fatal semi-truck accident.Pedestrians are at risk in the event of any kind of crash, and 18-wheelers can be even more devastating when they hit someone on foot. Our Houston wrongful death lawyers can support you during your recovery if a loved one dies in an accident involving an 18-wheeler.
