Tractor-Trailer Accidents in Texas
Commercial trucks like semi-trucks and tractor-trailers are necessary for the American economy to run and operate. However, accidents involving large commercial rigs are known to result in severe injuries for the drivers and occupants of smaller passenger vehicles. Semi-trucks frequently transport hazardous materials throughout the country, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reports that 5,237 truck crashes last year resulted in fatalities. Another 119,000 collisions were serious enough to result in injuries.
Professional truck drivers have a requirement to complete specialized safety training and obey stringent traffic rules, and standards are in place to ensure a minimal degree of safety for the driver and the trucking company. Unfortunately, shortcuts are used by businesses and drivers alike to increase profits, even at the risk of endangering the lives of other drivers.
Sometimes a commercial driver keeps driving after authorized working hours due to the need to meet strict deadlines, which might lead to the fatigued operation of a big rig. Tractor-trailer collisions can occur when a truck driver disobeys the traffic laws that all drivers are required to follow, or they can occur when the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations are broken.
