Houston, TX - Critical Injuries in Uber Crash at I-45 & West Rd

Houston, TX (March 4, 2024) - Two people were injured after a crash involving an Uber and another motorist in the Houston area on Sunday night, March 3. The accident was reported at the corner of Deer Trail Road and Gilespie Road that evening at around 9 p.m. Local reports revealed that three Uber passengers were traveling in a rideshare vehicle when it was hit by a pickup truck. 

The pickup driver fled the scene, while the Uber driver attempted to follow the at-fault motorist down Interstate 45 NB. Both vehicles attempted to make a U-turn near West Road. The pickup hit a curb and column and continued down the highway while the rideshare vehicle crashed into a traffic control box. 

A three-year-old girl traveling in the Uber was transported to a hospital in critical condition. A male passenger was also hospitalized for treatment of sustained injuries. The Uber driver remained at the scene. 

The driver of the pickup was later apprehended and taken into custody. They showed signs of intoxication, according to initial reports. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in the hands of local law enforcement officials.
