There was heavy fog on the road at the time of the crash. For unknown reasons, Wright’s SUV veered into eastbound traffic where it collided head-on with a Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer. The Chevy came to a rest in a north-facing ditch, while the semi landed in a south ditch.
Wright was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries have been reported at this time. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is in the hands of local law enforcement officials, and more information will be provided as it continues.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Deadly Head-On Collisions in Texas
When two vehicles crash head-on, the resulting injuries and other damages can be catastrophic. This is especially the case if the collision involves a massive commercial truck. Statistics show that nearly 30 percent of passenger car occupants who were killed in two-car collisions in 2021 involved vehicles struck head-on by a truck. Head-on collisions are only involved in roughly 2 percent of traffic fatalities across the country. However, statistics show that they are a factor in almost 10 percent of overall roadway deaths on average.
