According to witnesses, Lauren Huddleson was jogging along the trail on Thursday evening when she suddenly made a left turn and was struck by a passing cyclist. She was wearing headphones at the time of the pedestrian accident while the cyclist was passing her at a high rate of speed.
Witnesses on the path said that the trail had been heavily used lately, as fall weather was producing cooler temperatures, especially in the evening. Several also said it was difficult for bikers and runners to share the path, especially when cyclists were passing people on foot or speeding on the trails. There are two trails that make up the Katy path – one for all pedestrians and one for joggers and cyclists.
The cyclist who struck Huddleson suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
