Childress, TX - Three Dead, One Hurt in Crash with Mack Truck on US-287

Childress, TX (June 4, 2023) - On Thursday, June 1, three people were killed and one injured after a multi-vehicle crash in the Childress area.

The fatal accident took place on US-287 at around 10 a.m. It was reported that a 2016 Mack truck towing a semi-trailer was traveling northwest through a construction zone. A 2019 Subaru Ascent and a 2016 Ford Escape were traveling behind the commercial truck.

Traffic on the highway was moving slowly, and it was then that a 2013 Kenworth truck towing a semi-trailer collided with the Ford. This caused a chain reaction collision, and the Subaru became trapped between the two semi-trucks. The driver and passenger of the Subaru, 68-year-old Bradley Nevil and 61-year-old Sheri Nevil of McKinney, and the driver of the Escape, 54-year-old Patrick Scrivener of Troup, were killed in the collision.

The operator of the Kenworth, 47-year-old Vicente Barcenas of Perryton, was transported to Childress Regional Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

An ongoing crash investigation is in progress.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Fatal Trucking Accidents in Texas

Childress, TX - Three Dead, One Hurt in Crash with Mack Truck on US-287Semi-truck accidents are common throughout the country, but Texas is particularly prone to these types of catastrophic collisions. With 3,305 fatal motor vehicle crashes reported in 2018, the state topped a recent list of the country's most hazardous roadways. Some highways have speed limits exceeding 85 miles per hour. A fully loaded semi-truck needs 525 feet, or more than two football fields, to come to a complete stop traveling at 65 miles per hour, so it is understandable why fatal crashes involving these big rigs happen so frequently in Texas.
