Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Because there is little to shield a pedestrian from the full force of a significant collision, victims of these crashes often suffer catastrophic injuries, sometimes even fatalities, along with rising medical costs, and other losses. According to data from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the state’s rate of pedestrian fatalities has increased by almost 29.6 percent alone in the last five years. Texas saw 5,764 pedestrian-related crashes in 2022, resulting in 1,526 serious injuries and 829 fatalities. Unfortunately, pedestrians are more prone to sustain fatal injuries in a crash. To pursue a wrongful death claim in the event that a loved one is unjustly killed in an accident, you should speak with an experienced attorney.
Drivers should share the road. Sadly, reckless drivers hit pedestrians on a daily basis. Serious injuries can result from these collisions, and anyone affected may be entitled to make a claim for compensation. Drivers are required to look out for everyone on the road, including pedestrians. If negligent drivers strike pedestrians, they may easily suffer serious or even deadly injuries. Internal bleeding, traumatic brain injury, fractured bones, and other potentially fatal injuries are common in pedestrian collisions. Under Texas state law, surviving family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim to recover lost compensation for any related damages.
