Certain types of roadway travelers are more likely to be seriously injured in the event of a crash, and pedestrians are some of the most vulnerable on the road. According to statistics, there are over 8,000 pedestrian fatalities on American roadways each year. In Texas in 2022, 922 pedestrians lost their lives in vehicle collisions, and a pedestrian was thought to be involved in one out of every five traffic deaths in the state that year. In the last five years, the Lone Star State has seen a nearly 30 percent spike in pedestrian fatalities, showing just how dangerous the issue has become.
