Local sources revealed that a Honda Odyssey was headed southwest while a GMC Yukon and a Honda Pilot were traveling southeast. The Odyssey’s driver lost control while navigating a curve and crossed the median, hitting the GMC, which was attempting to pass the Pilot. The Pilot’s driver was unable to avoid crashing into the Yukon.
The roadway was closed for several hours while emergency responders were present. The driver of the Odyssey, 43-year-old Than Than Shwe from Vernon, TX, was pronounced dead at the scene. A nine-year-old in the GMC was transported to Wilbarger General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Seven others were hurt in the collision. Local law enforcement officials are managing an ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Fatal Head-on Collisions in Texas
A head-on collision can happen when a driver swerves into oncoming traffic. These types of crashes can cause catastrophic injuries and are over-represented in national traffic fatalities. Head-on collisions account for only about 2 percent of all crashes that are reported in the United States each year, but they cause over 3,600 deaths and contribute to almost 10 percent of all fatal collisions. If someone close to you is killed in a sudden accident, you need to partner with a trained personal injury lawyer in order to recover lost compensation.
Every fatal vehicle collision occurs without warning, and having to handle the consequences by yourself can be extremely challenging. Family members may file a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the deceased and seek damages under Texas state law. This can help relieve some of the expenses you are experiencing after a deadly crash, including a way to cover funeral and burial expenses. You do not want to bear the costs of another driver’s carelessness. You should seek the assistance of a knowledgeable lawyer to pursue justice and obtain the compensation you are entitled to.
