Amarillo, TX - Deputy Injured in Rear-End Crash at I-40 & Helium Rd

Amarillo, TX (March 3, 2024) - On Friday, March 1, a deputy with the Potter County Sheriff's Office was injured following a two-vehicle accident in the Amarillo area. The collision was initially reported early that morning at around 6:15 a.m. on Interstate 40 WB near Helium Road. Local reports indicated that deputies were dispatched to the scene to assist with a semi-truck accident a couple of hours earlier at around 4:30 a.m. 

The deputy was sitting in a patrol car assisting with traffic control when the vehicle was struck from behind by another car. The deputy was hurt and transported to a local hospital for treatment. No updates on their condition have been provided at this time. 

No injuries were reported in the initial collision. Emergency crews were present to render aid to the involved parties. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
