The fatal accident was reported on US-385 at around 10:20 a.m. It was reported that a GMC Sierra and a semi-trailer were stopped at a red light on the highway. Another semi-trailer was approaching the intersection and was unable to control its speed and hit the back of the other semi. 

The trailer of the stopped rig detached and caused the truck to push into the Sierra. There were six passengers in the GMC, and all were transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. 

The 83-year-old Amarillo man operating the first semi-trailer was killed in the accident. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is in progress.
