Carthage, TX (June 6, 2023) - On Saturday, June 3, a 16-year-old passenger was killed following a crash with a tractor-trailer in the Carthage area.
The deadly accident occurred on US-59 near Farm to Market 1749 at around 3:17 p.m. It was reported that a trucker named Igor Tkachuk was operating a 2023 Kenworth truck tractor towing a 2023 Wabash semi-trailer headed southbound. Tkachuk reportedly failed to yield and collided with a 2012 Toyota Tundra towing a 2007 Tracker Marine boat.
The Toyota was reportedly stopped at a stop sign when the DeBerry man entered the intersection. A 16-year-old passenger in the Toyota suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to UT Health Hospital in Carthage for treatment.
No other injuries were reported.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
On Texas roadways in 2011, there were no days without a traffic fatality. Semi-trucks are not involved in every collision, but fatalities are frequently the result of these types of crashes because of the size and weight difference between these rigs and smaller automobiles. 18-wheelers can weigh 3,000 to 5,000 pounds on average. 2010 had 284 fatal truck collisions in Texas, and injured parties may be able to pursue compensation.
A Texas wrongful death attorney can help you determine who is responsible for a fatal car accident. If the negligence of another person or organization causes the death of a loved one, they may be held legally liable for any resulting damages. To find out if you have a case for pursuing a claim for damages, you should speak with an attorney right away.
Dealing with the death of a loved one is never easy. The family will need to think about their financial condition in the future in addition to dealing with the shock of the loss and any potential legal actions. According to Texas law, any person or entity that the surviving spouse, child, or parent of the deceased believes to be responsible for the death may be sued for wrongful death.
