An employee at the Becky Gates Texas A&M Children’s Center has been suspended from work by the college and charged with third-degree felony injury to a child by the University Police Department after allegations that she physically abused a daycare attendee.
According to College Station news sources, daycare worker June Jones was reported by an assistant at the daycare to her supervisor after the woman was observed grabbing one of the children by the neck and hair. The physical abuse incident was captured on video and viewed by her supervisor as well as authorities and shows the small boy grabbing his neck in pain after the alleged abuse took place.
The child abuse incident occurred on May 1, and her employers reviewed videos of the woman’s conduct at the daycare for several weeks before that. She was suspended from working at the center on May 3. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services became involved several weeks later. The child who was injured in the incident told Child Protective Services that he said, “it’s hurting, it’s hurting” after he was grabbed on the neck.
If convicted, Jones faces two to ten years in prison and $10,000 in fines. She is out of jail on an $8,000 bail.
Jones had worked at the Texas A&M daycare for a decade. The daycare has been in operation for 13 years. This is the first daycare abuse incident to be reported in connection with the daycare center. The director released a statement saying that the daycare has a reputation for outstanding care and that they will continue to diligently monitor their employees.
