13 Injured in Fiery Texas School Bus Accident

Thirteen people were injured, including nine school children, in a four-vehicle accident in Texas on Friday morning, April 27.

The accident involved two cars and an 18-wheeler truck, and resulted in multiple vehicle fires.
According to the local Texas news sources, the Seguin bus accident took place at 6:30 a.m. when a bus carrying nine students was driving northbound on Texas 123 near the intersection of Langue Road on its way to a local school. In the southbound lanes, a car pulled onto the right shoulder to let a tractor-trailer pass, but the commercial truck struck the car and pushed it across the double-yellow line and into the school bus, which then hit a fourth vehicle and flipped onto its roof. A fire started that affected all four motor vehicles.
The truck driver was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital in critical condition, although reports say he is expected to recover from his injuries. All nine students were brought to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center for treatment, though eight were released within hours of the crash. The ninth student and one of the bus drivers are still undergoing treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The director of student transportation for the Seguin Independent School District told the media that the school had bought four buses just three weeks before that were equipped with a number of safety features, including flame resistant seats, a non-collapsible roof, and laminated windows.
A crew of employees from Haliburton was praised for helping the children safely off the bus after the collision.
